What do you like in 2021?
In this video we’re looking at the X32 Rack for the first time on the channel. We’re talking briefly about the videos coming up with the X32, Wing & S32 working together alongside a Dante network. Please do get your questions about those setups in now so we can answer them in the next few videos.
Since adding the X32 rack to the editing desk here, it has been a surprisingly useful tool. Having the physical controls of the Wing right next to this system for the past 6 months or so has been hugely helpful. The Wing has played a central role in directing traffic between various gear and systems on the fly during testing. It may seem overkill for video creation & editing, but when you’re exclusively making content about tech & audio equipment, being able to leave things setup over time is a really big part of actually getting to use the gear that is sent in.
The Dante network for example is not always in direct use. However, it is essential to leave things interconnected for testing. When another task come up, those test devices won’t get in the way. The X32 Rack has done a great job taking over those roles. The control software is incredibly convenient, and the lack of faders has not been an issue so far. A few swipes is all it takes now to get to the mixer. No longer physically turning from the computer and back, repeatedly throughout the day. Those seconds and that repetitive motion add up as well. But, even more surprising is how few distractions pop up when you’re able to stay focused on the computer alone.
What do you think though? Obviously for some work, faders are a must have, but the cost & space savings sure is nice.
