Shure & Yamaha quietly announced in a press release on March 1, 2017 that with the latest V4.1 firmware update for Yamaha CL & QL consoles, users will be able to access and control more of the most critical features of the AXT400, QLXD & ULXD wireless systems.

Shure AXT-610

With the help of the Shure [AXT-610] Showlink Access Point, you can now find and route wireless systems to your console, monitor battery, RF & audio signal levels and even make adjustments to the output level of the unit, all from within the console.

I know in my experience, this would be a great alternative to running a dedicated control network and computer at FOH to remotely monitor backstage wireless systems via Wireless Workbench, although I will be interested to see the performance of the AXT-610’s 2.4GHz wireless in real world situations.

I’ll always be a fan of more control and information being available on my console, and this type of control over microphones is a very exciting glimpse of what the future of networked digital audio has to offer. Imagine someday having remote control of all of your wired and wireless microphone’s parameters… I think that day may be coming faster than we imagine.
