you probably own a qBox.
In this video we’re taking a long overdue look at one of the few options you might come across while shopping for the ubiquitous qBox. There really isn’t a huge range of options to choose from if you find yourself in need of a tester of this type. A portable tone generator and monitoring solution that allows connection to a wide range of equipment is something that comes in far too handy on site to be served by so few buying options. While the Whirlwind qBox is fantastic example of an everyday carry version of this tool, in certain cases, you need something more.
The cable testing features, along with the ability to isolate and monitor individual pins of the incoming signal on the qBox are extremely helpful in some applications. However, the lack of precision can be limiting in others. The light weight construction is perfect for travel. Although, if you’ve dropped and broken more than one of them, you might be willing to carry something a bit heavier made of metal.
It’s at this point where you might consider stepping up to the Radio Design Labs PT-AMG2. Built to address the needs of installers working with their Stick-On modules, it might be the tool for you.
Both the PT-AMG2 & the qBox are awesome tools & I hope I make it clear in the video that they both have value. Picking the right one for the job is always going to be up to you, so check it out! For more info on RDL Stick-on modules, check out Video #113 where we take a look at their VCA modules.
