Firmware Update breathes new life into an old field recorder.

I recently received a comment on a six-year-old video asking why I did a full walkthrough of the Tascam DR-05 but didn’t talk about the Auto Record feature. Having not thought about the DR-05 in ages, let alone the video I made about it, I pulled up the video and got the recorder out to see what I had missed. Thankfully, it turns out I hadn’t missed anything, but Tascam had added a whole bunch of new features to the DR-05 through firmware updates over the years. 

So, in this video, we walk through updating the firmware and then look at the new Auto Record feature. We also look at how Pre-Record works and how you can use these new features to capture audio in a totally new way.  Being able to trigger recordings automatically (with pre-record) is a huge feature upgrade for a utility recorder that I personally purchased second-hand many years ago for less than a hundred dollars.
