Many times when you’re working in audio, you are getting paid to make the best of a bad situation. You might have great mic stands yourself, but not everyone you’ll work for will be so prepared. There are times when you’ll be faced with a mic stand that is on it’s last days or that should have been retired already.
Schools, houses of worship & even professional theaters & studios can have worn out gear. Often times they might not be aware of it, other times budget has their hands tied on replacing these things. Is a worn out mic stand the biggest priority they’ve got Either way, when there is a show to do, you’ve got to get as much as you can out of the tools at hand. In this video we go over an oldie but goodie that can save the day when you’re down to your last stand.

The 3M 1710 Vinyl Tape shown in the video has worked really well over the years for a lot of different tasks. More expensive 3M Super 33 or 35+ e-tapes work too, but you might want to save that good stuff for actual electrical work.
Cheaper e-tape made from more brittle plastic is generally not great, but will work in a pinch if it’s all you’ve got.
