Last week at InfoComm 2024 in Las Vegas, the folks at RF Venue introduced a new antenna and power distribution system to follow their popular DISTRO4 system. The half rack DISTRO5 claims to provide “high dynamic range (HDR) across the wireless microphone spectrum” by way of low noise amplifiers and improved gain structure. Compared to the DISTRO4 which supported four channels of wireless plus a fifth set of cascade outputs, the DISTRO5 does the same in just a half rack space. If you cascade two of these together, they can provide RF and power to nine wireless systems in a single rack space.
The DISTRO5 system works from 470-698 MHz, and with any brand or model of wireless microphone. It can be powered either by A/C wall power 100-240V or the 12V DC input for mobile use. They’ve included a 12V 5A DC output also that can be used with their optional Octopus power cable to power other 12V DC gear in the same rack. However, that looks to only be functional when the DISTRO5 is being powered by A/C, as the DC input is only 12V at 250mA.
Their release didn’t say if the rack kit would be included for the single unit, or if the hardware needed to rack two side by side is optional or provided, so be sure to check first if you’re placing an order. They do say that it is meant to accompany their COMBINE6 HDR half-rack IEM Transmitter combiner, so look out for those if you’re also running wireless in-ears.
Saving space in racks built for fly-in dates is a huge deal and I’m sure a lot of you will be looking to make that switch as soon as possible. They’ve set MAP price at $899 and they are ready to ship these right now, which is good news. The Distro4 can still be had at the time of writing this post and of course there is the DISTRO9 HDR which shares the same specs as the DISTRO5 HDR, but with nine outputs and multi-zone antenna support. All of these units are compatible with the popular RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna, which you can find along with their other accessories on Amazon.
