Rat Adjacent
Dave Rat has made a huge impression on the Pro Audio Industry. Without mentioning SoundTools, over the past twenty years he has been quietly teaching a generation of audio pros who grew up on the internet. In a small insulated industry, real information was incredibly hard to find in detail back in the early 2000’s. Interviews and articles did their best, but videos from tour, a blog from the guy mixing FOH with one of the biggest acts in the world, it was unheard of.
The Roadies in the Midst videos were a game changer at the time, unlike anything out there. After the videos, came incredibly in-depth blog posts hashing out ideas like the Vortex sub deployment method. His advanced fundamentals videos (the white-board videos) gave us an unprecedented look at how major acts were being mixed on tour. Dozens of people have tried to replicate those videos with their own advice, but very few have found success.
Rat Sound has since grown to be a leader in the industry & the SoundTools brand has become known for making quality tools for audio professionals. Always curious and willing to do some damage to find an answer, it’s no wonder Dave’s gear and way of teaching is so well received.
His work has been a huge inspiration for why DcSoundOp was started. The support from SoundTools early on also played a big part in this channel’s growth. It has been a real pleasure to spend time with the SoundTools crew at The NAMM Show each year. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the videos we’ve collaborated on below.
