In this video, we’re looking at the top headphone pick amongst audio professionals in recent years. With 31.5% of the votes, the Audio Technica ATH-m50x has been the consistent favorite. In December of 2017 I posted the first Headphone Survey asking viewers which headphones they prefer. The survey provided a few options & left space for write in answers, knowing that audio pros wouldn’t need much prompting to go into detail about their choice. The goal though was to get a simple answer.

In reality, it’s actually kind of tricky to pick a single pair. If you work in audio, you probably have a favorite pair, a go-to set that handles many of your needs. But there are always subtle exceptions and things you wouldn’t use them for & I want to know you’re using in those situations as well.

To try answer that question, the survey went out to forums, groups and subreddits, aiming for diversity. Looking for the bigger trends across multiple disciplines. What’s popular for specific tasks, and which are the most versatile? With over four hundred responses so far, it’s been an interesting exercise.

What makes it even more interesting is how Headphones are such a personal choice. How they sound on your head, with your ears, is extremely subjective & damn hard to convey in a meaningful video that’s worth watching. So, instead of another headphone shootout, with questionable scientific merit, we’re following the data from your survey responses.

In future videos we’ll be going through the list, using them professionally and giving an honest opinion of how they work and where they might fit in your toolbox.
