Rat’s new Packs

One of the more unique aspects of The NAMM Show is the opportunity it allows to transform the near endless energy and ideas flowing from someone like SoundTools founder Dave Rat into a physical booth space. Seeing all of the ideas, concepts, some prototypes and old iterations of products all in one place is really cool. Getting an inside look from Dave himself was even better.

In recent years, the pace of production and development coming from the SoundTools camp has been very impressive. Their ability to take ideas to production quickly, while innovating with new concepts and refining old ones as they go, is unique in a market full of big companies steering slowly.

I get no sense of an agenda from the team at SoundTools, beyond making audio tools they like. Manufacturing, design, fulfillment, and all other decisions seem to genuinely come from a core belief in working with folks they like and trust. If you want more info from Dave about the M-Force Subs or anything else he’s working on with the Rat Sound Production side, or in development with companies like PowerSoft, be sure to check out his AES.org talks both past and future. We had the chance to sit in for a few minutes of his talk on subwoofers & it was well worth checking out for yourself.

Theres no doubt that many years on the road influenced the new packaging for SoundTools’ most popular products. The red boxes come in two sizes and were made with reusability in mind. The smaller box fits the Sniffer/Sender family (new NL-8 sniffer/sender release date TBA) and the larger box is for the CAT Boxes and CAT Tails. Three small boxes take the same footprint as the larger box for a familiar truck pack configuration. Behind-the-scenes photos from previous Rat Sound tours make up the graphics used throughout the set.

We had such a great time with Dave and the whole team! Between the drum thumper, tons of fans & customers, and doing some investigative journalism there was always something fun happening with SoundTools at NAMM this year.
